Purple Shampoo 💜

This post is for all my wanna-be blondes out there! Let me tell you that the struggle is real when it comes to brunettes wanting to go blonde. (Especially if you have previously dyed your hair) It takes about 73 million years to go from all the dark shades down to the platinum or close-to super blonde hair. You have to be careful not to damage your hair too much and not go too frequently or else your hair will break easily. My hair is naturally thin but takes very well to bleach, meaning my desired shade could be done in under 1 hour total, however, because it's thin, it dries out my hair quicker, causing it to be very straw-like. Now I know some of you also pay to get to that shade, but will sit at the salon for several hours longer than me, which is totally fine too. I'm not here to tell you what to do with your hair, but I personally want my hair to have as less damage as possible throughout the whole process. With that being said, I waited a whole 8 months, and with the help of a bet with my boyfriend, before I did anything to my hair. This might not seem like a lot but I was dying because I was so use to getting my hair done every few months. I finally got my hair done and I was a little disappointed. I wanted a balayage blonde look, but I ended up getting a lighter brown with only the top half of my hair lightened.

Left was what I showed to the hair stylist ; Right is what I got after the visit

The color I had was orange. No, not blonde.. Not even close to blonde. It was orange. I was really upset and wanting to go back to the salon to let them know but instead I took a deep breathe and told myself that it will be okay because I have the best purple shampoo ever, Fanola No Yellow Shampoo. I swear this shampoo is a lifesaver. I actually bought this when my hair was brown because I was preparing it for when I did go blonde and didn't have any of this orange in it. But because the stylist used an orange toner, it all came back. Poo ☹ I bought the 350ml for $16.90, but the price has since gone down to $10!!!

This shampoo is really dark purple and works amazingly. I take about a quarter-size into my hand and put it through my roots and then another quarter-size and massage it through the rest of my hair. Be very careful because this will stain your hands and get purple all over your bathtub, but don't worry, the stain on your hands will go away less than a day and it will not stain your tub. I leave it in my hair for about 5 to 10 minutes depending on how long I want the purple to sit and then rinse and condition it out with It's a 10 hair mask. I finish up showering and then rinse out the conditioner last. When I get out, I use It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product and spray my hair while it's still damp and then brush it through. I use a Wet Brush to brush my hair since it's so thin and let me tell you - It's freakin amazing. It combs right through my hair with very little knots and no pain.

Left is before - in the car right from the salon ; Right is after - 1 wash with Fanola No Yellow Shampoo

I did the shampoo once and it got SO MUCH brassiness out of my hair that I couldn't believe it. Usually purple shampoos are drying to your hair but this one isn't at all. I have also tried the shimmering lights purple shampoo as well as the Sally's off-brand one and can say with full confidence that this one blows them out of the water. The only place I've seen it and bought it is from Amazon and you can click the picture above to get one yourself. Trust me, you won't regret it.

International Women's Day

This day is not as popular as it is back home. In Bosnia, this is a national holiday and has been for many years. This is even more popular than Valentine's Day because it celebrates all women - wives, sisters, daughters, mothers, aunts, cousins, grandmothers. I love it especially because I get to spoil my own mother. It's funny how the realization of mothers importance doesn't become discovered until your mid 20's or even when you have your own children. I remember going through all the stages of different relationships with my mom until I realized how much she truly loves me and would do anything for me. Recently I was sick with a 102 degree fever and my mother said that she wishes she had the fever and not me. It's amazing how a mother will do anything for her children, even if it means she, herself, suffering through pain. I don't think I will ever experience the same type of love that she has given me because my mother and I will always have a bond. Ever since birth, you are connected to your mother, literally. You have the same blood and oxygen running through your veins. You are a part of her and nobody can take that away from you. A mother is not only caring but nurturing and loving, that should never take her for granted. I don't have any kids yet but I hope I end up being as half the woman my mother is, because she is absolutely amazing. Take care of your mother because you only have one and once she's gone, you can never have her back. Let's also remember the daughters, mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, and grandmothers that were not able to make it to celebrate with us today, but will always be in our hearts.

I also wanted to say that It’s hard to believe how much women do on a daily basis and it’s simply brushed off. I see my coworkers take care of their kids, clean after their house, take care of their spouses, and have a full time job. I work 8 hours a day, drive home with my eyes barely open, and pass out needing a nap. For those women to be able to do that and still have their mental health shows a lot. Kudos to all of you! I hope to have that drive and motivation one day. (not today, but one day! Lol!)

So let’s celebrate all women for everything they do on a daily basis. Today is your day officially, but in reality, every day is your day. Who run the world? Girls. #GirlPower (Every time I think of girl power, I think of the Cheetah Girls lol!!)

March

Phew! February just flew by. January felt like it was 5 months long but February went by faster than I could blink! I can't believe we're already into the third month of 2018. I still feel like it's January 1st, not 3 months in. Anyway, March is upon us and I can say that it truly is the month of green. The color green has always been a celebration color for me so I can say that I do like this month. Bosnia's independence day is March 1st and what a great way to kick off the month! Happy Independence Day to the motherland! I love this country so much that I wanted to share a little blog post on it. This will be just a snippet and maybe later on, I can do a full post on just Bosnia.

If you are not familiar, Bosnia is actually Bosnia and Herzegovina and is located in Europe underneath Croatia, across from Italy, and by the Adriatic Sea. (We are Bosnia, NOT Croatia, and absolutely NOT Serbia) The capital is Sarajevo. Although I've never been, I hear it's absolutely beautiful. I've had a few cousins go and live there. All of the land in Bosnia is very green and humid. I only remember going over summer and the humidity was very strong compared to Colorado, where we get 0. As we were driving in, all I could see was green trees and green hills with houses either bunched up or further apart. The views were absolutely breathtaking. The people are very friendly and joke around with you every chance they get. They are the kind of people that love to laugh and just enjoy life. That is such a strong envy of mine, as I strive to be that happy as much as I can.

This is Sanski Most.
This is a big city in Bosnia called Mostar
This is the capital of Bosnia - Sarajevo.

The language we speak is Bosnian, but more specifically, I speak Bosglish. (Bosnian and English jammed into one lol). I was always spoken to in Bosnian and it was the first language I learned. I absolutely love the language because some things that we say are a lot more comforting and easier said than in English. I came to the United States when I was 5 years old so although I was always taught Bosnian, I spoke mostly English through school and picked it up right away. I still learn new words every single day. My wish is to spend a few months in Bosnia so my language skills can sharpen even more. The best way to learn is to be surrounded by it and honestly, that could not be more true!

We have many traditional dishes that we make, that includes main courses as well as desserts. One very well known food is called Pita. (No, it's not pita chips) Pita is a phyllo dough made with various different types of foods. For example, you can have Burek, which is Pita with ground beef inside. You can also have Sirnica, which is Pita with cottage cheese, eggs, and sour cream. My favorite is Zeljanica, which is Pita with Spinach!

Pita with Spinach!! YUMM!
One of our other famous dishes is called Cevapi, which is like beef sausages but it's eaten for either lunch or dinner, never breakfast, and it comes with a Lepinja, which is a flatbread, and the sides of onions, sour cream, and a sauce called Ajvar (made from roasted red peppers). If you ever are able to go to Bosnia, I strongly recommend to try those two!

Cevapi!

For desserts, our popular ones are Baklava and crepes with Nutella! :)

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed my little post on my motherland country! I haven't been since 2015 but I miss it dearly and hope to go again soon. If you are ever able to go, please send me pictures so I can post them on my blog! If you are able to go, trust me, you won't regret it!!
